DISD 2006 will be full of new technology this year.
Leading the charge this year, with a large portion of the agenda time, will be Data Access Worldwide with first looks into VDF 12 (aka Project Horizon). Rounding out the sessions will be presentations on the topics listed below. All these individuals have presented for us before and have a reputation of delivering extremely valuable tricks and techniques that compliment dataflex development efforts.
Data Access Worldwide will introduce Visual DataFlex 12 at DISD 2006
The next generation of Visual DataFlex, project named ’Horizon’, will be launched at the DISD Conference in Carson City, NV, February 23rd to 25th. According to John Tuohy, Data Access Worldwide’s Chief Technology Officer, ’Project Horizon represents the most significant change in the Visual DataFlex development environment in years. We’ve created a brand new development Studio. While your application code all remains the same, the new Studio will take that code and transform the way you work with it.’
The DISD Board has devoted half of this year’s agenda to Project Horizon to allow for in-depth presentation and training on the new software’s features, capabilities and enhancements. If you’re a Visual DataFlex developer, make plans now to attend DISD and be among the first to learn about Project Horizon!
Complete details of Project Horizon will be presented at DISD and published with the Alpha Release of the software which will occur at approximately the same time as the Carson City conference. The DISD Project Horizon topics, presented by Stephen Meeley and John Tuohy, will include:
· Introduction to Project Horizon (Visual DataFlex 12)
· Working in the Horizon Studio
· Working with Horizon projects
· Debugging
· Understanding CodeSense and source code management
· Migrating your development environment to Horizon
· Migrating your applications to Horizon
· Working in multiple-developer environments
· Application deployment
· Visual DataFlex development roadmap
· Horizon timeline
· Preparing for the Horizon Alpha and Beta programs
DISD 2006 presentations from the VDF Community
|
| Sture Anderson | AJAX Toolkit for VDF |
| Sture is researching how to create methods and classes that will allow me to develop AJAX enabled web applications in an effective manner. The method will eventually bring all the coding inside the VDF environment thereby making the use of ASP files superflous. |
Judy Cushing | Samba/Linux with VDF/DOS Dataflex/WebApp. |
| Judy is sharing her hard won experience in moving Dataflex apps from Novel to Linux. |
Marco Kuipers | First look at Eclipse VDF plugin. |
| This is the first public view of Torkild’s Eclipse plugin for editing Datalfex code. There has been much interest in this open source editor platform. We’ll get a good look at what it offers to the DF community. |
Oliver Nelson | BridgeCity’s Dataslave |
| A replacement solution for disappointed Crossmerge users.Crossmerge had a lot of promise but has stalled in it’s development cycle. Oliver will be demoing Dataslave, a slick drag and drop GUI data transformation tool. |
Binu Agrawal | Realtime field change logging |
| Presenting a ’donation’ of McFarland Cascade’s development efforts, Binu will be sharingcode and technique on real-time field logging. Subclassing the DataDictionary and a coupleslick tricks makes a very powerful tool for watching data changes at the field level. |
David King | A different look look at reporting techniques. |
Come a day early for Thursday’s free training session
Learn how to use Struct and Arrays in VDF 11 presented by Vincent Oorsprong, Data Access Europe BV, The Nederlands.
Continuing our efforts to provide a little something extra for your conference dollar, we are adding Vincent Oorsprong to our Thursday program for an in-depth training session on the new structs and arrays. Vincent will challenge and leave you with a solid understanding of these new tools. Cost to you is another day’s room and board at the hotel and a day of your time.
One of the major changes in revision 11 is support of native structs and arrays. Structs replace the old type..end_type definition and arrays are possible on any datatype, thereby replacing the array class. Both of the old styles stay present and supported. Learn what it is and how to use it, using extensive exercises.
